As reported, art therapy has made great progress and development in Hong Kong’s education. And we can also see globally, a shift towards the importance of the arts on improving mental well-being. A growing body of evidence suggests that engaging in the visual arts for adults with mental health conditions can reduce depression and anxiety, increase self-respect and encourage re-engagement with the wider world. These same benefits are experienced in the counselling of children and teenagers.
If you live in Hong Kong and you’re looking for an Australian-based educational experience to enrich your therapy skills or to equip you to work as a recognised art therapist, College for Educational and Clinical Art Therapy (CECAT) offers a solid education.
Becoming a professional art therapist often means navigating the deep, often inaccessible, waters of university master’s programs, which I used to teach in Australia. But CECAT offers a different path. Think of it as a flexible, sturdy bridge, providing comprehensive certificate and diploma programs that allow aspiring art therapists to reach their destination, not just in Australia, but also in Hong Kong.
At CECAT, students have the choice of in-person and online study. We have a selection of in-person course dates for students to attend (read more below) or students can choose to complete the entire course online from the comfort of their own home. This includes Zoom meetings with our Director and Senior Lecturer, psychologist Robert Gray.
